Antique hand made braided chain from India

Description

This handmade accessory piece from India measures 30" in length by 1/3" in width. It is handcrafted with the design the same on both sides. It is made of "coin" silver with an interlocked pattern of disks and rings. It weighs 90 grams.
I was told it was a belt but my waist is not that small so I purchased it 20 years ago with the intent to hang amulets from it and make it into a necklace. That never happened!
The hinge on the clasp folds out so you can unscrew the pin to open the piece. Since I only intended to hang it around my neck as a necklace their never was a need to open it. For some reason I cannot unscrew it after all the years of remaining dormant so I will leave it to the new owner. All the pieces are intact.
I am not an expert and have researched it to the best of my ability. If any of my assumptions are incorrect I would appreciate a message so I can correct it.
The person I purchased it from 20  years ago told me it was turn of the last century in age.
