Shofar (Musical/Tuned)Key of "F" (F,C,F,A,C), 41 1/2", Natural Finish (#516), "Average" sound quality discount (see below)
Welcome to "Trumpets of God", my name is Randy Spencer and along with my wife Donna, we represent a dual ministry in Houston, Texas, which has as its focus, the Shofar, God's prophetic instrument of choice. "Trumpets of God" centers around the manufacturing excellence of this instrument. The Lord has commissioned us to produce the best sounding, easiest playing Shofars available anywhere. Because of our call to excellence, we take whatever time is necessary in maximizing the sound and appearance qualities of each horn. In addition, each Shofar is
tuned
. Those who are familiar with Shofars consider these to be the best in the world. We attribute this accomplishment entirely to the grace of God, knowing that apart from Him, we can do nothing. We also offer repair, sound improvement, and tuning for those who already have Shofars.
Sound Quality
- To our knowledge, very few Shofars are being manufactured as musical instruments. We define "
Musical
" sound quality as being capable of producing at least (4) clear, loud tones with a relatively consistent pitch pattern. Tuning is also a must, especially when playing with other instruments. Every Shofar we manufacture is tuned by way of chromatic tuner (A = 440). We use the 2nd tone when establishing the key because of its primary usage. We typically offer the keys of D, E-flat, E, F, G, A, B-flat. We can also supply other "key" requests provided we have suitable lengths available to accommodate. The key of "D" requires the longest length (> 48" finished), while the key of "B-flat" permits a much shorter length. Most of our Shofars finish-out in the 34" to 45" range (measured around the spiral). Concerning the key of "D", there is a premium cost for several reasons. Horns needed to accommodate this key are very difficult to find because of the extremely long length requirements (54"+ natural/uncut). They can also present much more difficulty, often requiring lots more time in achieving their powerful deep tones. In addition, greater lengths combined with larger diameters means more surface area to be externally finished. Once again, The Lord has made it very clear that we are not to compromise craftsmanship of any type (sound or appearance). Because every horn is unique and responds differently, much time is taken during the drilling and mouthpiece forming processes in order to maximize playing ease and obtain the best sound possible. The mouthpiece opening remains a natural / integral part of the Shofar (nothing added), preserving a "kosher" identity. Concerning sound quality, we are not always able to achieve the highest standards of our mission. And because "
Average
" falls well short of our purpose, The Lord has instructed us to offer these Shofars at a cost well below our norm. This provides a great alternative for those with lesser budgets. "
Average
" (as compared to "
Musical
") means - playing may be more difficult, the pitch pattern may be inconsistent, and / or the tone quality may not be as pure. However, many find even these easier to play than most.
Exterior Finishes - Having played hundreds and hundreds of Shofars, I have discovered that the natural, full thickness of the horn produces the greatest sound resonance. Therefore, we maintain as much of the natural thickness as possible, removing only a minimal layer for finishing, thus the natural ribbed exterior remains intact. After many years of producing various finishes, we believe we're providing the best one yet; a unique natural look. This finish genuinely restores the original beauty of the horn. Accordingly, we call this finish "Natural".
We avoid over-embellishment for the purpose of keeping with kosher tradition.
Many
have commented that these are the most authentically beautiful Shofars they've ever seen. And again, we attribute this entirely to The Lord's favor upon our efforts.
Carrying Bags
-
Carrying Bags are a great asset, especially when you're on the move. The outside is offered in a
variety of materials, textures
, and colors. The inside consists of a heavy / dense duck canvas lining which provides
rigidity
and prevents snagging. The overall appearance is very authentic, and they are beautiful.
